Garsdale engine shed opened in 1879. Two years later, it was leased to the North Eastern Railway Company and used to stable and service the tank engines operating on the branch line to Hawes and Northallerton. The shed was severely damaged by fire on October 6th, 1917. The structure was rebuilt, but it closed in 1939 and was demolished at some point between 1939 and 1955.
