Settle Carlisle Railway Conservation Area (SCRCA) Plate 109 is a view of the north end of Birkett Tunnel in October 1984. The Tunnel was driven through a geological phenomena in which shale, mountain limestone, magnesium limestone, slate, grit, iron, coal and lead ore were encountered.
